I would like to thank Lord Dunboyne for kindly providing an answer to my question and correcting my statement regarding the relationship between Edmund Butler and Piers, 8th Earl of Ormond. They were not half-brothers, but full brothers, Edmund being the elder. Piers was able to prove in court that Edmund's birth took place before the marriage of their parents, whether or not that was actually the truth. As to the other questions I had posed, I was directed to the late Lord Dunboyne's charts on this site to find that the identity of Eleanor's mother was unknown, and that her paternal grandmother was Elyne Fitzgerald.
