would love to trace roots of James Butler (gggrandfather) died about 1870, Harbour Buffett, NFLD. He was married 1856 in Harbour Buffett to Elizabeth Kirby (1837-1935) and sired 5 children. James was supposedly born ca 1790-1800 in Ringwood, England, but have never been able to find record, confirm parentage, or tie him to other Newfoundland Butlers. He was CofE - not Catholic. would like to rule out a connection to the Henry Butler who was a magistrate in Burin, NFLD. Male family names are Henry, William, George, and James. Since he was "old" at the time of this 1856 marriage, I'd like to know if he had been married prior and/or had children. handwritten notes from my grandmother may indicate that although he was born in England, his family had been in NFLD in earlier generations.
