My 3 x gt grandfather Pierce Butler was born in 1813/1814 in Knocktopher. He joined the East India Company Army in 1834 in the Bengal Presidency and serve for 19 years before taking his retirement in New Zealand.

In 1867 he returned to Ireland to live and ten months after arriving he married a Margaret Cuddhee at Hugginstown. On his marriage certificate he listed his place of abode as Barrettstown.

I don't know if there is any connection with your Butlers, but there is definitely a possibility. Pierce's father was James Butler a weaver. I don't know his mother's name, but it could be Bridget as he named the children from his first marriage in India James and Bridget (my gt gt grandmother).
