Would like information on Richard Butler who came to America in the late 1700s from Kilkenny County Ireland to Halifax Virginia. He married Sarah Enroughty in Halifax Va. in l796. He was said to have married Sarah Throckmorton according to family history, however, a Robert Throckmorton who was teste for Richard and Sarah Enroughtys marriage. Also, there was a Sally Throckmorton in Halifax Va who married a William Guill. Robert Throckmorton was also teste for this marriage so there is a Throckmorton connection. Richard and Sarah lived in Montgomery Co. N. C. Until 1714 when they moved to Burke Co. N. C. Their children were Stephen born in 1774, John Edward born in 1798 died in 1840, William Claiborne born in 1802 died in 1841 Thomas born in 1784 died in 1826 and Hugh born in 1813 died? As you can see if the above dates are correct, Richard must have been married twice or some other explanation for Stephen and Thomas being born before Richards marriage to Sarah Enroughty. I have noted similarities between of my ancestor and Pierce Butler 1744-1832. Any information about Pierce's family-especially his older brother Thomas and his children, Richard, Thomas, and Edward. Did Richard come to America? When did Thomas and Edward come to America? Were they married? To whom. Any and all information will be appreciated.
